KATE’S CHEMO HAIR JOURNEY

We wanted to make this blog all about how we can help you mange the affects of chemotherapy on your hair. Our amazing client Kate volunteered to share her journey of losing her hair during chemo to the new chemo curl she developed and back to feeling herself again!

We understand chemotherapy is a life saving medication and has revolutionised cancer treatment, but as hairdressers we also understand the potential impact on your hair and how we can help you manage it.

Post chemo the new hair growth can be effected in some weird and not so wonderful ways, but embracing the journey is what were here for! Many chemo patients experience the effect chemo can have on your hair, coming in the forms of “chemo curl” or some pigment or texture changes to your hair. This is caused by the drugs lingering within the body altering the cells in the hair follicles resulting in, some unusual changes to your hair.

At The Quarters, we are here to support you at every stage, from braving the shave to ‘wigging out’ to the crazy grow out phase. We will support you in making a plan of action and help making the right choices on your new hair journey post chemo.

KATE’S JOURNEY

A small snippet of Kate’s hair in just 8 pictures

Once diagnosed with cancer & understanding her chemo journey was about to begin, Kate visited Marie to discuss, and take control of the potential hair loss situation. Marie cut Kate’s hair down a little shorter than her usual textured hair cut in preparation for her chemo starting. Kate purchased a wig but as usual it wasn’t the best style for her, so Marie cut it into a shape that was more ‘Kate!’

When Kate’s hair started to grow back, Marie gradually started adding some shape and style back into to the cut, Kate (who we always thought looked a little like Annie Lennox!) embraced her new shorter look, but then we started to notice the dreaded “chemo curl” appearing.

Rather than fight this crazy curl, Kate with her usual positive outlook, embraced every part of it, so decided with Marie that we should shape it into a familiar style but keep the curl as a feature! Sadly for Kate, just as she had begun to love the new curls, they started to fade and we knew she would be back to loving her ‘old’ hair again in no time at all!

We wanted to share this story and some images of our fabulous Kate on her journey. As a salon we love to support you throughout, what is the toughest time, by doing what we do best… YOUR HAIR!
